Why I Think this Blog Is Named Jugaad!

The Solid Reason!

The Solid Reason!

When Eminem in his latest album included a song titled “Gaanja” the Hindi nickname for marijuana it was time to sit up and notice! It was a defining moment for the UP slang, which has reached the epitome of success by receiving a dedication in the form of a song titled on its name!

Some other slangs of apna UP key bhaiyya log include Tashan! A movie with a dream star-cast and eye popping scenes of Kareena was made with the same title. The movie didn’t work out but the word “tashan” found a new found celebritydom and instant recognition all over. The word which roughly translates into “attitude” found it’s way to the lips of the nation.

Jugaad is a UP ka word too!

Bhaiyya poora India jugaad se chal raha hai ye to scooter hain!

-overheard in a mechanic shop in lucknow.

Very true and so relevant! Our governments work on jugaad (coalitions!) our Light, water and phone connections all run on jugaad. Our judiciary, police and politics run on the single and profound mantra- Jugaad. Children get admissions in school, colleges through jugaad. Half of country’s workforce got work through “Jugaad”. Jugaad is the reason why our fathers in their youth could run Bajaj Scooters (by tilting it and kicking 100 times for any problem!).

Bada jugaadu banda hain tu to!

-Believe me this is the highest praise you can give to a person of UP. Alternatively, if you want to be fast-friends with him!

Kantaap translated as “tight slap” is a word nurtured and developed in western UP. Kantaap is a word used to denote extreme anger or irritation. When a person threatens you with a Kantaap, step aside and make way!

Ghanta is a word used to denote disbelief, anger, laughter and so on….. and it literally translates itself as “clock”.

Gola tikana” this is my favourite… it’s used to denote that a person is telling or told a lie.. or he is hoodwinking by playing with words! It may also translate as “bunk”!

That’s enough torturing for all the esteemed readers of This Blog.

Thank you so much. The inspiration about the content of the above post came from.

  3. I really like Megan in the new music video (from Eminem). She authentically portrays the way abused females become dependent on the rollcoaster of emotions.
